The Architecture Group – MACA has been featured in Arkitera, digital platform of Türkiye’s first and leading architectural center in March 2026. (1). The Group’s first announcement within the Turkish architectural community carries particular significance in relation to its climate action mission, as Türkiye is also preparing to host COP31, the 2026 United Nations Climate Change Conference, this year. (2).

The Group’s inclusion in this publication builds on its published announcements in MACA’s December 2025 (3) and February 2026 (4) newsletters, as well as its inaugural Group meeting held in February 2026 (5). The publication foregrounds the historic leadership of the MIT School of Architecture and Planning and the far-reaching, innovative contributions of its globally influential alumni in advancing climate-responsive architecture, urban design, and planning. In this context, the Group articulates a clear ambition to convene MIT’s global network of alumni and former research scholars as a driving force for the development of collaborative, high-impact climate action initiatives.

The publication further emphasizes the Architecture Group-MACA’s firm alignment with MIT President Sally Kornbluth’s call to “marshal a bold, tenacious response to the run-away crisis of climate change,” (6) and reaffirms its strong commitment to the vision articulated by MIT’s 17th President, Rafael L. Reif, in the MIT Climate Change Action Plan: “There is room and reason for each of us to be part of the solution.” (7). The Group advances this vision as a call to leadership and collective responsibility at a global scale.

As part of its strategic preparations for COP31, under the leadership of Meral Ekincioglu, Ph.D., the Architecture Group has proactively engaged MIT channels, including the Office of Sustainability and the Alumni Association, to explore opportunities for an online presentation and ensure alignment with UNFCCC eligibility requirements. (8). As of March 26, the Group continues to actively pursue institutional guidance to position itself as a credible and effective contributor to COP31.
